Standing in a prime position on the “Swiss Riviera”, views of the Alps and Lake Geneva everytime you look out the window make the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace one of the most magical places you can check yourself into in Montreux, but what you’ll really love about this decadent Grande Dame is its architecture. The exterior and common areas are decidedly Belle Époque, and faithful to the hotel where author Vladimir Nabokov stayed for years until his death, and the world’s nobles and royals loved to check-in on their frequent trips to Switzerland. But saunter past the glittering chandeliers, sweeping staircases and frescoes, and head up to the rooms and restaurants and it’s a much more contemporary affair. A hot spot for the city’s elite since 1906, dining and drinking at any of the hotel’s gastronomic venues is an event in itself. Funky Claude’s Bar is the unofficial Montreux Jazz fest, with live music on six nights a week, while elsewhere, La Terasse du Petit Palais is one of Geneva’s best spots for alfresco dinners and lakeside views. But the ultimate indulgence here might just be a visit to the Willow Stream Spa. A 2,000 sq.m. space of pure rejuvenating bliss, there is nothing quite like it this side of Switzerland.
